Great news for Gippsland

The Gippsland Forestry Hub welcomes the great news that HVP Plantations recently announced that they have finalised an agreement with Victorian Government to expand the forestry estate in Gippsland.

The agreement will allow an additional 14,000 hectares of softwood plantations to be planted over the next 10 years under the program.

It is a great opportunity for HVP Plantations to deliver one of the most significant plantation forestry developments in the last 20 years, making Gippsland one of the largest softwood plantation forestry regions in Australia.

This opportunity will generate employment by producing an additional 1.5 million seedlings a year at the HVP Gippsland tree nursery, through land preparation and tree planting and by caring for the trees.

There are also opportunities to enter into farm forestry agreements with local farmers.

The additional softwood plantations will also contribute to emissions reduction by removing approximately 7.8 million tonnes of carbon dioxide over the next 25 years – the equivalent of removing more than 60,000 cars from the road per year.  It will increase plantation softwood timber supply in Gippsland and support the future security of mill processing.
