AKD, a leading Australian forestry and timber processing company, is pleased to announce it will acquire Pentarch Forestry’s 50% share in Highland Pine Products Pty Ltd (HPP), making AKD the sole owner of the business and the Oberon sawmill.
This move is a significant step in AKD’s long-term strategy to operate high quality, strategically located sawmills that support a strong and sustainable domestic timber industry.
HPP has been a successful joint venture since 2018, with the Oberon sawmill processing over 500,000 m³ of plantation-grown sawlogs annually into structural, landscape and packaging products. With the acquisition, AKD will now process close to 2 million m³ of sawlogs per year across its five major sawmills in Colac, Caboolture, Oberon, Tumut, and Yarram, producing more than 1 million m³ of timber.
“The Oberon acquisition is consistent with AKD’s focus on operating high quality, strategically located sawmills and represents an opportunity to provide an improved supply and product range for customers,” said Shane Vicary, AKD CEO. “We look forward to working directly with the Oberon team and strengthening our support for the local community and timber industry.”
This acquisition, expected to complete on 1 July 2025, reinforces AKD’s commitment to strategic growth, regional jobs, and a resilient Australian timber industry.
